The numbers in the size drop down are the measurement of the distance from above the coronary band to the bottom of the knee in inches.
Typically people purchase one size larger for the hind legs.
In general size 10 would be pony, size 12 would be large pony, size 16 would be horse, and size 18 would be large horse, however, we do recommend taking a measurement for a proper fit.
